Dance Classes

Ballet (3-12 yrs) • Enter the world of the Nutcracker and other beautiful tales through creative ballet and use of imagery. We teach posture, position, rhythm and grace. In the more advanced classes we work on the basics of ballet vocabulary: barre work, center floor (adagio, port de bras, petit allegro, grand allegro). All ballet classes have an end of year studio production.

Dance

Ballet Francais (3-5 yrs) • An enchanting creative ballet class to teach not only grace and flexibility but the marvels of the French language through ballet terminology, their origin and meaning. Instructor is native from France! End of year production.

Creative Dance (3-5, 6-9 yrs) • The essence of this class is the joy of expression through dance. Movement games, rhythm instruments, creative dramatics, all encourage physical expression. Hoops, scarves, balls, streamers etc. are used imaginatively.

Modern Dance (7-10, 9-12 yrs) • We will explore the dance elements of time, space and energy while focusing on dance as personal expression. Students will have the opportunity to create short dances of their own.

Hip Hop (7-14 yrs) • Hip Hop developed from Jazz, Rock, Tap and Latino dancing. It is energetic, modern and dynamic. We progressively develop an exciting dance routine which we perform at the end of the term.

Yoga (children and adults) • Yoga is easy to learn, soothes your soul while toning your body. It strengthens your cardiovascular system and improves your mental fitness. It is fun! Be a cobra, a warrior or an eagle and become strong and flexible.

RECITAL INFORMATION

As is the tradition, our studio performances consist of quite a number of short dances. Our goal is to give the children a taste of many different styles of movement, from lyrical to rhythmic, and we will tap into different types of music. Our approach to the study of ballet is very playful and for the younger children we find it important to develop their sense of orientation in space, posture, rhythm and left/right symmetry.

Our studio recitals are held in early June, usually the second to last week of class. Our performances are open to the public and are free of charge. Costumes for this yearly special event are ordered in early February. A $60.- costume fee is required. An announcement is given out to parents during class time.
